The Fun Cup welcomes novice drivers, as the friendly and competitive nature of the series is an ideal place for the newcomer to feel at home. Also, because of the time each driver is provided behind the wheel, it is possible to learn the ropes quickly and come up to speed alongside a mixture of novices and extremely experienced drivers.

The first thing to do, is to obtain a National B Competition Race Licence, by applying to the Motorsports Association on 01753 681736, for a 'Get started in Motorsport' pack, which contains all the necessary paperwork together with a useful DVD.

The preparation for the written test is explained in the DVD, which needs to be watched a few times. It is also necessary to go through the ARDS notes together with a read through of section 'J' of the Motorsports Association (MSA) Blue Book. The written flags test must be passed, so it is essential to spend some time beforehand learning that section thoroughly.

The next step is to have the medical form completed by a doctor, for which, there is usually a nominal charge and then book an ARDS test at a racing school. ARDS stands for the Association of Approved Racing Drivers Schools. The ARDS test has been compulsory for first time applicants for racing licences for the past 10 years, in order to introduce a minimum competence level for all newcomers to motorsport. The test comprises a written test, examining flag usage and race procedures, followed by a practical driving test, to ensure that the basics have been understood.

The test will take approximately 3 hours and for the driving section, the applicant will receive time in a road car with an instructor, during which time it will be decided if the driver has passed, or failed, on driving competence. The instructor will be looking for the applicant to demonstrate adequate vision ahead and good judgment. In other words, that the vehicle is travelling at a reasonable pace, for the circuit and conditions. There is no element of timing or any speed requirements, but crucially, it is imperative that the vehicle remains on the track at all times. It is also essential that the driver can string at least 2 laps together consistently.

Then all that is required is to post the medical & ARDS certificates, together with a cheque to the MSA and the Race National 'B' licence will be despatched in about a week. However, if you would like to condense all the above into one day and let us arrange it all for you, please contact Paul on 01538 306921.

Fun Cup was born from a commitment to provide enjoyable, low-cost motorsport and there are various ways in which you can take part.

There is the option of buying a car outright and the cost is approximately £29,542 plus vat. The cars are available to hire for a whole year and come complete with a full preparation and race service. Alternatively, you can hire a car for just one race! For further information regarding rental packages, please visit the ”Rental Drives” page.

If you are a single driver, or would simply like to try out the Fun Cup, we can provide you with the option to rent a seat in a car for one or more races, or you can even test the car at a track day.

Most teams comprise of 3 drivers in a team, which also helps maintain the low running costs associated with the Fun Cup, particularly when you consider that the cost of the car (£29,542 plus VAT) divided out between a team of 3 driver's, is around £10,000 plus VAT per person.

Not only are the purchasing and running costs extremely low, when compared to other motorsport series/championships, but your driving time in the Fun Cup is more than 8 times that offered by any other series/championship.

As the UK distributor of the Fun Cup cars, JPR Motorsport Ltd, runs a parts logistics service, which saves teams buying parts upfront and the problem of taking large stocks of spare parts to every race meeting.
